On November 16th, GAC AION officially launched its new model, the AION i60. As a five-seater compact SUV, the AION i60 offers both pure electric and range-extended powertrain options. Positioned as a "national range-extended large five-seater SUV," the GAC AION i60 has a pre-sale price starting at RMB 126,800 for the range-extended version and RMB 119,800 for the pure electric version. The launch of this new car is not only a key step in the implementation of AION's "people's good car" strategy, but also aims to provide families with a high-value travel option free from range anxiety through the concept of "inclusive technology."
The AION i60 adopts a new design language. The closed grille at the front is connected to a continuous light strip, paired with "Y"-shaped headlights, extending the visual width and presenting the technological temperament unique to pure electric vehicles. The car features sleek side lines, hidden door handles to reduce wind resistance, and an optional black floating roof for enhanced style. In terms of dimensions, the new car measures 4685/1854(1876)/1660 mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2775 mm. Positioned precisely in the segment between the AION V and AION LX, its five-seat layout, combined with the 2775 mm wheelbase, provides over 900 mm of rear legroom, and the trunk's standard capacity is expected to exceed 500 liters.
The AION i60 is equipped with GAC AION's independently developed StarSource Range Extender System, Tank Battery 2.0, and GSD Intelligent Driving Assistance System, aiming to systematically address users' core needs in fuel consumption, safety, and intelligent driving.
StarSource Range Extender System: Features a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine as a range extender, with a maximum power of 74 kW. This system innovatively applies a volcano-type combustion design, achieving an industry-leading oil-to-electricity conversion efficiency of 3.73 kWh/L, and has received the China Automotive Technology and Research Center's (CATARC) "Range Extender Energy Efficiency Star" certification. Combined with efficient electric drive and full-domain AI energy management, the vehicle's fuel consumption when the battery is depleted can be controlled to around 5.5 liters/100km, effectively solving the problem of "high fuel consumption when the battery is depleted." In terms of noise reduction, the new car's interior noise level is only 40 decibels during idling charging, earning the CATARC "Silent Star AAA" certification. The range-extended version is equipped with a 29.165 kWh battery pack, providing a pure electric range of 160 kilometers.
The "Crater Battery 2.0": Labeled with a "zero spontaneous combustion" safety record, this battery technology has been installed in over 1.3 million vehicles, passed the CATARC thermal runaway test, and met the new national standard safety requirements ahead of schedule.
GSD Intelligent Driving Assist System: Offers high-speed NDA (Navigation Assist) and HPA (Memory Parking) functions, supports on-ramps and off-ramps and smooth lane changes, and covers over 300 parking scenarios. The AION i60 can be equipped with a LiDAR, providing the hardware foundation for advanced intelligent driving functions and enabling it to handle complex road conditions, such as multi-scenario automatic parking and high-speed navigation assistance.
The AION i60 offers both pure electric and range-extended powertrains.
Pure Electric Version: Equipped with a 150 kW or 165 kW drive motor, paired with three different capacity lithium iron phosphate battery packs: 47.829 kWh, 62.268 kWh, and 75.26 kWh, corresponding to CLTC pure electric ranges of 400 km, 530 km, and 650 km respectively. The high-power version is expected to achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of under 8 seconds. Meanwhile, the pure electric version supports fast charging, taking approximately 15 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.
The interior design pursues a minimalist style, offering color options such as oatmeal white and warm velvet light brown. In terms of technology, the new car is equipped with a floating central control screen and a full LCD instrument panel, 32-color ambient lighting, and dual wireless charging pads for mobile phones, aiming to enhance the convenience and quality of daily use. Some higher-spec models also offer optional lidar, further strengthening its competitiveness in the field of intelligent driving.
The AION i60 enters the market with a pre-sale price starting at RMB 126,800 for the range-extended version and RMB 119,800 for the pure electric version, directly competing with models such as the BYD Song PLUS DM-i and Geely Galaxy L7 in the RMB 150,000 SUV market. By offering dual power options, the AION i60 aims to cover a wider user group—the pure electric version meets daily commuting needs, while the range-extended version alleviates range concerns for long-distance travelers. However, some analysts believe that the AION i60 still needs to be tested by the market in terms of product differentiation compared to competitors like the Leapmotor C10.
The launch of the GAC AION i60 signifies that, in addition to its pure electric vehicle advantages, the brand is officially expanding the boundaries of its "people's car" offerings with range-extended technology, and its market performance deserves continued attention.
