On May 29, 2026, SAIC Volkswagen officially launched the 2026 Tiguan L ePro plug-in hybrid SUV at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Auto Show, releasing two distinct models: the Luxury Edition and the Flagship Edition. Built upon an all-new generation PHEV hybrid architecture and equipped with a 1.5T plug-in hybrid powertrain, the new vehicle delivers enhanced power efficiency and a more intelligent driving experience. The following sections outline the key features and differences between the two models, categorized by type.
Both models feature an exclusive "New Energy" front-end design, distinguished by sleek LED headlights paired with a full-width light strip—a visual cue that clearly differentiates them from the gasoline-powered versions. The body dimensions are identical for both models—4744 mm (length) x 1842 mm (width) x 1684 mm (height)—with a wheelbase of 2791 mm. Both feature a 5-seat configuration, offering consistent interior space.
Luxury Edition: Equipped with 19-inch "petal-style" alloy wheels and traditional mechanical door handles. The rear features a full-width taillight design with an illuminated red logo, complemented by a concealed exhaust layout. The overall aesthetic leans toward a poised and practical style.
Flagship Edition: Building upon the Luxury Edition, this model incorporates the "R-Line" sports package. This includes a full-width blacked-out mesh lower grille, aerodynamic "air-blade" trim on the air intakes, a blacked-out rear spoiler, and black exterior mirrors, creating a significantly sportier visual presence. Optional 20-inch alloy wheels are available to further enhance its visual impact.
Both models share the same powertrain system, featuring identical performance specifications:
Powered by an EA211 1.5T EVO II hybrid-specific engine (95 kW) paired with a drive motor (145 kW), the system delivers a combined output of approximately 240 kW (326 horsepower). This powertrain is mated to a TQ251 hybrid-specific transmission.
Equipped with a 22 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, the vehicle offers a CLTC-rated pure-electric range of 150 km. The combined total range reaches between 1300 km and 1423 km, while the official fuel consumption in charge-sustaining mode (when the battery is depleted) is a mere 3.6 L/100 km. The vehicle is compatible with 92-octane gasoline.
Supports 50 kW DC fast charging as well as a 3.6 kW external power discharge function, catering to a diverse range of energy replenishment and external power supply needs.
Both vehicles feature a horizontal, integrated cabin design, equipped with a 12.9-inch floating central touchscreen, a 10.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, and a passenger-side entertainment screen, creating a seamless three-screen layout. The infotainment system utilizes a card-based interface with a map background, offering an exceptional localized user experience.
Luxury Edition: Features a mixed-material upholstery combining leather and suede; the driver's seat supports 8-way power adjustment. It comes equipped with an electronic column shifter, 50W wireless fast charging, multi-color ambient lighting, and a power-operated tailgate, offering over 45 distinct storage compartments throughout the cabin.
Flagship Edition: Upgraded to premium perforated leather seats; both the driver and front passenger seats support 10-way power adjustment and feature added ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The front passenger seat is a "Queen's Seat"—complete with an electric leg rest—that supports multi-angle adjustment, significantly enhancing passenger comfort.
Both models are equipped with the IQ.Pilot system, developed jointly with DJI Automotive. Built upon a hardware foundation comprising 24 sensors—including monocular and binocular cameras as well as ultrasonic radars—the system enables L2+ level assisted driving capabilities.
Luxury Edition: Includes Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control Pro, Lane Keeping Assist Pro, Intelligent Lane Change Assist, and IQ.Drive Parking Assist, supporting full-speed-range assisted driving from 0 to 200 km/h.
Flagship Edition: Building upon the Luxury Edition, this version adds the Highway NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) feature. This enables higher-level assisted driving functions—such as automatic on/off-ramp navigation and intelligent obstacle avoidance—making long-distance highway driving significantly more effortless.
The core safety configurations for both vehicles are identical; both come standard with a comprehensive suite of safety systems, including six airbags, active braking, lane departure warning, and tire pressure monitoring.
Flagship Edition: Additionally equipped with a 360-degree panoramic camera system, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert functions. These features further enhance driving safety, making the vehicle particularly well-suited for navigating complex urban traffic conditions.
Luxury Edition: Features the standard IQ.Light intelligent headlight system, which supports automatic light sensing and adaptive high/low beam switching. Flagship Edition: Upgraded to IQ.Light high-resolution intelligent projection headlights, featuring added adaptive steering functionality for superior nighttime illumination and a heightened sense of technological sophistication.
