On May 19, 2025, Hesai Technology officially announced an exclusive fixed-point cooperation with Great Wall Motor (GWM)'s ORA brand. Its new generation of models will be equipped with Hesai LiDARs, and it is expected to achieve mass production and gradual delivery to users within 2025. This cooperation marks the further upgrade of GWM Automobile in the level of intelligent driving perception, and is also the deep technical binding of Hesai Technology with GWM brands after WEY Blue Mountain and Alpine models.
LiDAR Configuration
The new generation of ORA models is expected to be equipped with Hesai ATX series LiDARs, which are developed based on the fourth-generation chip architecture, with small size, ultra-wide angle (horizontal field of view ≥ 120°) and 200 meters ultra-long-range detection capabilities, which can cover the full-scene intelligent driving needs from driving to parking.
Function upgrade
Combined with GWM's "heavy perception, light map" technology route, the laser radar will be integrated with multiple sensors such as 4D millimeter-wave radar and camera to support the city's NOA high-level intelligent driving function, and achieve accurate decision-making in scenarios such as 80km/h lane change and complex intersections.
Mass production rhythm
The ORA Lightning Cat Travel Edition equipped with Hesai ATX laser radar has been unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. The mass production progress of the new model is ahead of schedule, highlighting the efficiency of the cooperation between the two parties.
The ORA brand is positioned for young female users. This technology upgrade may rewrite the stereotype of "weak intelligent configuration" in this market segment. With the deepening of Hesai's cooperation with GWM's multiple brands (WEY, Tank, etc.), the laser radar installation rate of Chinese auto companies is expected to exceed 30% in 2025.
According to official news from GWM ORA, "at least two blockbuster products" will be launched in the second half of this year.
