On October 16, 2025, the Chery Jetour Zongheng G700 completed the world's first cross-river crossing of the Yangtze River in Wuhu, China, covering a distance of 1,480 meters in just 22 minutes. Its military-grade turbine propulsion technology validates its positioning as an "all-round luxury off-road SUV." The new vehicle will be launched on October 19th with a pre-sale price range of RMB 349,900-429,900, directly competing with competitors such as the BYD Yangwang U8 and Formula Leopard Leopard 8.
Amphibious Dual-Drive System
The vehicle features military-grade turbine propulsion units (15kW each, 18kW peak) on both rear sides, generating a total thrust of 3,000N, equivalent to the power of a seven-person speedboat, propelling the 3-ton vehicle at a steady speed of 7 km/h.
IPX8 waterproof rating: The passenger compartment can withstand 2 meters of water, and the chassis features automatic sealing and marine-grade anti-rust technology to ensure zero leakage.
Intelligent Stability
A 6-axis gyroscope monitors the vehicle's position 100 times per second, adjusting propeller power within 0.5 seconds in the event of turbulence. This system, combined with an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide system, maintains balance.
The Zongheng G700 successfully crossed the Yangtze River in 22 minutes, covering a total distance of 1,480 meters. The Zongheng G700 crossed a river approximately 1.2 kilometers wide, with currents reaching 5-10 km/h. The vehicle is equipped with a unibody, non-porous painted body, an active air circulation system, and an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide high-speed propeller system, ensuring it maintains a stable floating position.
The Zongheng G700 uses a 6-axis gyroscope to adjust its body balance in real time, ensuring a precise and controllable trajectory on the water. After entering the water, it maintained a steady speed of approximately 7 km/h and finally landed successfully at the Nanlong Ferry. Below are photos of the Yangtze River crossing:
Chassis Performance: Developed jointly with Land Rover, the non-load-bearing body boasts a ground clearance of 350mm, three locking differentials in the front, center, and rear, and a wading depth of 800mm.
Powertrain: 2.0TD hybrid-specific engine (45.5% thermal efficiency) + 2-speed DHT transmission, generating a combined power of 560kW and a range of 1,400km on a full tank or full charge.
Space: 5198mm in length + 2050mm in width, with three rows of six seats and a full-size spare tire mounted externally on the tailgate.
Intelligent Features: Huawei Qiankun Intelligent Driving System + 15.6-inch rotating central control screen, supporting high-speed No Auto-Assist (NOA) and automatic parking.
This Yangtze River crossing not only validated the G700's adaptability to extreme environments but also highlighted Chery's technological breakthroughs in the hybrid off-road vehicle market. With competition intensifying in the 400,000 RMB premium off-road vehicle market, the G700's differentiated selling point of "amphibious" capability could reshape the domestic hardcore SUV market.
While traditional off-road vehicles are still competing in hill climbing, the Jetour G700 has already unlocked the "river crossing" capability. If the production model can perfectly replicate this challenging performance, it will become the ultimate toy for outdoor adventurers, not just a simple means of transportation.
