At the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, the Passat ePro made its global debut as the first plug-in hybrid model in the Pro family, marking the official entry of this "national B-segment car" into a new era of electrification. Built on a new plug-in hybrid platform, the new car integrates the EA211 1.5T EVO II hybrid-dedicated engine with a high-efficiency electric drive system, achieving a pure electric range of up to 110km and a combined range of over 1300km, perfectly balancing energy consumption and practicality.
The "e" in VW Passat ePro embodies the triple meanings of "electric," "evolution," and "elegant," precisely interpreting the core of the product's upgrade. This launch targets the cost-effective consumer group of the Cadillac CT5, aiming to differentiate itself in the 200,000-250,000 RMB market segment with its advantages of "lower operating costs, more practical space, and more comprehensive family features." It is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026.
The biggest upgrade highlight of the VW Passat ePro is its plug-in hybrid system, consisting of a new 1.5T turbocharged engine and an electric motor. This engine utilizes core technologies such as active variable cylinder deactivation and high compression ratio Miller cycle, increasing thermal efficiency to over 40%. Combined with a 100kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, the system's combined power reaches 160kW, with a peak torque of 400N·m. According to publicly available data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, its pure electric range reaches 100 kilometers (WLTC standard), with a combined fuel consumption as low as 1.2L/100km, and fuel consumption without electricity controlled below 4.5L/100km, effectively balancing performance and energy consumption.
The new model continues the Passat family's composed and sophisticated design language, but with subtle optimizations to reflect its hybrid identity. The front grille features a new continuous light strip and an illuminated emblem, the side air vents on the bumper are more sharply styled, and the rear adopts a smoked, continuous taillight assembly with an exclusive "ePro" badge. The vehicle dimensions are 4980×1836×1469mm, with a wheelbase of 2871mm, essentially the same as the gasoline version. The cabin comes standard with a 10.2-inch full LCD instrument cluster and a 12-inch floating central control screen, supporting intelligent voice navigation and remote charging management via smartphone. The driver assistance system includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and automatic parking, achieving L2+ level assisted driving.
The Passat ePro adopts a P2 architecture hybrid system, with the electric motor positioned between the engine and transmission, supporting intelligent switching between pure electric, hybrid, and gasoline driving modes. It is equipped with a 21.8kWh ternary lithium battery pack, supporting DC fast charging (80% charge in 30 minutes) and 7.2kW AC slow charging, and offers an 8-year/160,000km warranty. The battery pack features an aluminum alloy casing and a multi-pressure relief valve design, meeting IP67 protection standards and passing extreme safety tests such as needle penetration and fire. The suspension system is a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link structure, with chassis tuning optimized for battery weight, balancing comfort and handling stability.
