On June 6, 2025, foreign media autoevolution captured a set of road test photos of the BMW iX5 M70 electric prototype in Germany. This high-performance pure electric SUV built on the CLAR platform is expected to be released in the fall of 2026, and may replace the current X5 M Competition as the brand's new electric SUV flagship.
Power system: equipped with dual-motor four-wheel drive, the maximum power may reach 680 horsepower (exceeding the 650 horsepower of i7 M70), and the acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers is expected to enter the 3-second club, directly targeting Tesla Model X Plaid;
Tire specifications: equipped with 23-inch oversized Michelin tires (front 295/35 R23, rear 315/35 R23), the size exceeds the fuel version of X5 M Competition, and is equipped with drilled brake discs to enhance braking performance;
Battery technology: Optimized 800V high-voltage fast charging system, 300 kilometers of energy replenishment in 10 minutes, and the range may exceed 500 kilometers (EPA standard).
Despite the heavy camouflage, it is still recognizable that it adopts the Neue Klasse style design: closed double kidney grille, hidden door handles, streamlined body to reduce wind resistance. The interior is expected to be equipped with BMW OS X system, equipped with a 17.9-inch central control screen (refer to Vision Neue Klasse X concept car) and L3 level automatic driving assistance function.
The new car will be put into production at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA, forming a pure electric SUV matrix with iX6 and iX7. There are also reports that Alpina may launch a 900 horsepower high-performance version to further enhance its market competitiveness. BMW's move marks the in-depth advancement of its electrification strategy into the high-performance field, and may reshape the electric luxury SUV market in the future.
