DENZA, a high-end sub-brand of BYD, announced that it will enter the Australian market in the third quarter of 2025. The first batch of models include Denza B5/B8 plug-in hybrid off-road vehicles renamed from Formula Leopard Leopard 5/Leopard 8, as well as Z9 electric station wagon and D9 luxury MPV, marking a major breakthrough for Chinese new energy luxury brands in the right-hand drive market.
Hardcore off-road series
Denza B5 (formerly Formula Leopard Leopard 5): equipped with 1.5T+dual-motor plug-in hybrid system, comprehensive output 505kW/760Nm, CLTC range 1200 kilometers, equipped with 31.8kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, power parameters increased by 184kW compared with the Australian version of Shark 6 pickup truck.
Denza B8 (Formula Leopard Leopard 8): Upgraded 2.0T+ dual motors, output 550kW/760Nm, battery capacity increased to 36.8kWh, and 1,200km range under seven-seat layout.
Differentiated models
Z9 wagon: Pure electric and plug-in hybrid dual versions, targeting competitors such as Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, becoming a rare electric wagon in Australia.
D9 MPV: Positioning the high-end business market, benchmarking Zeekr 009 and Lexus LM.
Localized deployment
BYD Australia Product Manager Sajid Hassan revealed that Denza will adjust the right-hand drive model configuration according to Australian market demand and announce the complete product line through the third quarter brand conference. The first batch of vehicles is expected to be delivered in November-December.
The entry of Denza into Australia is an important move for BYD's globalization. In the first quarter of 2025, BYD's new energy sales in Australia ranked first, and the Shark 6 pickup truck became the best-selling plug-in hybrid model in the local area. Through channel direct management reform (termination of the exclusive agency model) and multi-brand collaboration, BYD is accelerating its penetration into the Australian market.
