On August 22nd, SAIC Automotive, a member of the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), continued its promotional efforts for the SAIC H5, detailing the vehicle's body structure and releasing official body-in-white images. The new vehicle's ultra-strong nine-horizontal, five-vertical body structure creates a "steel fortress," with over 88% high-strength steel and aluminum alloy, and is comprehensively reinforced in key areas.
The SAIC H5 utilizes a unique "nine-horizontal, five-vertical" cage-type body structure, featuring 27 strategically placed high-strength beams forming a three-dimensional protective network. This design allows for multi-path impact force transmission during a collision, distributing localized impacts throughout the vehicle body. Key data include:
High-strength steel and aluminum alloys account for 88.3%, far exceeding the 75% average in its class;
The front impact beam covers 74.8% of the vehicle, while the rear impact beam covers 73.6%, creating a seamless front-to-rear protection loop;
The side sills utilize 4.5mm-thick aircraft-grade aluminum alloy, increasing side impact resistance by 40%.
Front Protection System
The dual front impact beams utilize a composite structure of 1500MPa hot-formed steel and 7-series aluminum alloy. The crash box is 380mm long, increasing deformation and energy absorption space by 25% compared to traditional designs.
Battery Protection
A "Well"-shaped 2000MPa ultra-high-strength steel frame surrounds the battery pack, coupled with a 3mm-thick aluminum alloy underbody guard, achieving an IP68 protection rating.
Welding Technology
The entire vehicle utilizes a combination of laser welding and structural adhesives, with welds at key joints reaching 42 meters in length, increasing overall rigidity by 18%.

Based on internal test data:
25% frontal offset collision: Passenger compartment intrusion <80mm (national standard <150mm);
Side pillar impact: Maximum B-pillar deformation <45mm (industry best standard <80mm);
Roof static pressure: Withstands 8.2 tons of pressure (equivalent to 4.1 times the vehicle's weight).
The new vehicle measures 4780mm in length, 1910mm in width, and 1664mm in height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2840mm. It is available in two versions: an extended-range version and a pure electric version.
Extended-range version: 1.5L extended-range powertrain, with a maximum CLTC pure electric range of 230 kilometers and a CLTC combined range of over 1,300 kilometers.
Pure electric version: 64.6kWh / 80kWh The battery and CLTC pure electric ranges are 535 km and 655 km, respectively.
The SAIC H5 enters the 200,000 yuan segment with a "safety for all" approach, and its body safety performance surpasses some 300,000 yuan luxury models. Compared to its competitors:
The proportion of high-strength steel is 12 percentage points higher than the BYD Song PLUS;
It has nine more transverse reinforcement beams than the Leapmotor C11;
The anti-collision beam covers a 15% larger area than the Deepal S7.
Experts from the China Society of Automotive Engineers noted: "The SAIC H5 brings safety technology from high-end models down to the lower levels. Its body design has achieved C-NCAP Five-Star+ standards, and its side impact protection scheme, in particular, is exemplary in the industry."
