On August 25, 2025, SAIC Motor, the "fifth generation" of Hongmeng Intelligent Driving (HD), jointly developed by Huawei and SAICMOTOR (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Motor), officially announced the opening of pre-orders for its first model, the SAIC H5, with a starting price of RMB 169,800. This mid-size SUV will be the most affordable member of the Hongmeng Intelligent Driving family and is expected to be officially launched in September 2025.
The SAIC H5 offers two powertrain options: a pure electric version and an extended-range version to meet different user needs. The extended-range version is equipped with a 1.5L engine produced by SAIC as a range extender, with a maximum power of 72 kW and a CLTC (Compliant and Tracked Car) combined range of over 1,300 km. The pure electric version offers drive motors with maximum power of 150 kW and 180 kW, respectively, with a CLTC (Compliant and Tracked Car) combined range of up to 655 km.
The SAIC H5 continues the design language of the Hongmeng Intelligent Driving family, measuring 4780mm × 1910mm × 1664mm with a wheelbase of 2840mm. The front features a closed grille, paired with narrow, upward-sloping LED headlights on either side, creating a highly technological look. A roof-mounted LiDAR (optional) is also equipped with an illuminated badge and blue intelligent driving lights. The side profile is sleek, with traditional mechanical door handles. The rear features a through-type taillight cluster with the SAIC brand logo centered, creating a simple and elegant design.
One of the SAIC H5's greatest highlights is its launch with Huawei's newly developed Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 4.0 system. The system, unveiled at the Shanghai Qiankun Intelligent Technology Conference on April 22, 2025, utilizes the WEWA (World Engine + World Behavior Model) architecture and incorporates several innovative technologies:
Perception System: High-precision solid-state LiDAR, in-cabin laser vision sensors, and distributed millimeter-wave radar;
Safety: CAS 4.0, a comprehensive collision avoidance system, supports all-speed, all-direction, all-target, all-weather, and all-scenario safety;

Huawei's ADS 4.0 system is available in four versions, with the flagship ADS Ultra supporting commercial L3 autonomous driving on highways.
The SAIC H5's interior design balances practicality with a sense of technology. The center console features a dual-screen combination of a 15.6-inch floating screen and a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, running the built-in HarmonyOS 4.0 system. It supports voice interaction, online navigation, and other functions. The flat-bottomed steering wheel features a sporty design, while retaining physical buttons for intuitive operation.
The rear row features an innovative "true three-seat" layout. Thanks to a 1500mm width and optimized seat ergonomics, three passengers can sit shoulder-to-shoulder without contact. The center passenger enjoys 950mm of legroom and over 1000mm of headroom. Combined with independent air conditioning vents and adjustable headrests, this completely solves the "useless" middle seat in the rear of traditional SUVs. The trunk volume is 580L, and with the seats folded down, it can reach 1500L, fully satisfying family travel needs.
