Huawei Kunlun ADS 4 System OTA Upgrade Features in September

24 September 2025

Huawei's Kunpeng ADS 4 intelligent driving system will receive OTA updates with new features in September.

The Huawei Kunlun ADS 4 system will launch a major OTA upgrade in September 2025, covering all HarmonyOS Smart Driving vehicles. L3-level technology will be rolled out to older models, and the "Parking Lot to Parking Lot 2.0" feature will enable seamless navigation across all scenarios. This upgrade focuses on "architectural innovation" and "seamless user experience," incorporating over 20 optimizations, including the WEWA technology framework and intelligent speed limits for risky road sections, resulting in a 20% improvement in driving efficiency and a 70% reduction in harsh braking.

1. Upgraded WEWA Architecture

Enhanced driving comfort: Smoother lane changes, more fluid following, and graceful intersection navigation; 70% reduction in harsh braking.

Improved handling of complex scenarios: More decisive decision-making when encountering parked vehicles or construction zones; smoother interaction with cyclists and pedestrians; 20% improvement in driving efficiency.

2. Parking Lot to Parking Lot 2.0: Supports "Parking Lot Level Navigation"

Supports integrated display of urban/campus information (parking spaces, roads, etc.). Users can directly select their destination on the map (e.g., building entrance or specific parking space) to initiate "parking lot to parking lot" navigation.

This feature requires the destination to support "parking lot to parking lot" navigation. Availability may vary.

3. New Parking Lot to Parking Lot 2.0: Seamless Navigation Experience

Supports integrated navigation display for both inside and outside the campus, eliminating the need to switch between campus and city maps. Users can activate navigation assistance (NCA) with one click from their parking space, ensuring uninterrupted NCA experience from parking space to parking space.

This feature requires both the starting and destination campuses to support this function. Availability may vary.

4. More Flexible NCA Activation Conditions

The NCA activation conditions are more flexible, allowing the vehicle to activate navigation assistance while in an intersection or changing lanes, providing a safer and more convenient experience.

This feature requires the vehicle's direction to match the navigation direction.

5. Enhanced Real-Time Environment Rendering Interface (SR) with richer information and improved visuals

Clearer road markings: Added 3D street name rendering, and improved recognition and rendering of fishbone lines and diamond-shaped road markings.

Enhanced visual experience: Added rendering effects for sunrise and sunset.

Refined rendering of special vehicles: The system automatically enhances the color and metallic texture of special vehicles such as police cars and ambulances. When a police car is detected on patrol, the central display will show a dynamic flashing light effect.

6. Real-Time Environment Rendering Interface (SR) for intuitive parking

When driving at low speeds, the Real-Time Environment Rendering Interface (SR) detects and displays available parking spaces. After selecting a parking space, the parking assist function activates without needing to shift into reverse, making parking easier and faster.

7. Support for saving custom parking spots in parking lots/underground garages

Save your preferred parking spots in parking lots or underground garages. Navigate directly to your saved spot with one click – no more searching for parking!

This function requires support from the parking facility (office park, residential area, etc.). Availability may vary.

8. Save parking spots with user-defined preferences

When saving a parking spot, users can set their preferred parking position (e.g., "park to the left"). The parking assist function will then use these preferences for future parking maneuvers, providing a personalized parking experience.

9. Real-time interaction with dynamic objects during parking assist

During parking, the system interacts with dynamic objects (e.g., pedestrians). If a dynamic obstacle is detected, the parking path can be adjusted for a safer and smoother maneuver.

10. Automatic "One-Touch Parking" notification when approaching the vehicle

When approaching the vehicle, the app automatically displays a "One-Touch Parking" notification, allowing remote parking with a single tap. Customize notification settings to avoid unnecessary interruptions.

Users can set notification triggers on the vehicle's infotainment system, such as "only for narrow parking spaces". This feature requires enabling the app's Bluetooth function and granting relevant permissions (such as notifications and location access).

11. Added Parking Exit Assist (EPA) with Parking Light Signals

During parking exit maneuvers, the light signal system displays the vehicle's intended movement, such as direction, through indicators on the ground, informing pedestrians and other vehicles of the vehicle's actions and enhancing parking safety.

This feature relies on the HUAWEI XPIXEL high-resolution smart headlight system.

12. Added Parking Payment Function

When leaving a parking lot that supports electronic payment, users can simply scan the screen in the vehicle to complete payment. This saves time and effort, making leaving the parking lot easier.

Whether this feature is supported depends on the specific parking lot. Support for this feature is being gradually rolled out.

13. Enhanced Safety Features

Added Driver Incapacitation Assist

When the system detects that the driver has become incapacitated due to sudden illness (such as fainting) or severe fatigue, it will automatically take control of the vehicle, slowing down, safely pulling over to the side of the road, and activating hazard lights to maximize the safety of passengers and other road users.

This feature is enabled by default and works in both Navigation-Assisted Driving (NCA) and manual driving modes. Owners can choose to disable this feature if desired. To disable: access the ADS app on the central screen, tap "Advanced Driving Systems" > "Active Safety" and toggle off "Driver Incapacitation Assist".

14. Lane-Keeping Assist (LOCP) Supports Emergency Steering Correction for Off-Road Obstacles

When driving at speeds above low speed, if the system detects a risk of the vehicle veering off the road into a ditch, it will automatically provide steering assistance and perform an emergency correction to prevent an accident.

15. Enhanced Automatic Emergency Steering Assist (eAES) Supports Activation in Unmarked Lane Scenarios

When driving through intersections or areas without clear lane markings, if a sudden collision risk is detected (such as a pedestrian stepping out or an e-scooter crossing), the system will control steering and braking to help the vehicle avoid or reduce the risk of a collision.

16. Parking Assist (APA) Supports Recognition of Undulating and Overhead Obstacles

This system can identify typical undulating obstacles (such as curbs, ditches, etc.) and overhead obstacles (such as fire hydrants) behind the vehicle, and automatically brake to provide added safety.

This function is only applicable to specific high-risk scenarios. Please refer to the vehicle manufacturer's user manual for details. Users should strictly follow the manual and be prepared to intervene at any time.

17. New Low-Speed Collision Avoidance Function

When driving at low speeds (<10 km/h), the system actively monitors obstacles on the side. If it detects a potential collision risk with objects such as pillars or road signs, it will assist in braking to reduce the risk of a side-impact collision.

18. New Tire Burst Stability Control Assist

When the vehicle is in Navigation Control Assist (NCA) mode, if a tire bursts on a city expressway or highway, the system will assist in adjusting braking and steering to maintain vehicle stability and safely maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road.

19. Sentinel Mode Can Be Automatically Activated Based on the Scenario After Leaving the Vehicle

Sentinel Mode can be automatically activated to protect your vehicle after you leave it. You can choose to disable it at home or work, catering to your needs and ensuring your vehicle's safety.

20. Navigation Control Assist (NCA) Supports Intelligent Speed Limit Adjustment for Hazardous Road Sections

When the vehicle is in Navigation Control Assist (NCA) mode, if any of the following situations occur, the vehicle will automatically reduce the maximum speed limit and alert the driver to ensure safety:

Traffic Accident Ahead: Navigation system alerts of an accident ahead;

Wet Road Conditions: Rain, puddles, or other wet road conditions;

Dark Road (Highway): Dark, unlit tunnels, etc.
